Shockform designs and manufactures the FlapSpeed® PRO in-house as the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Beyond Boeing BAC5730-2 Rev D, the system meets SAE AMS 2430, AMS 2590, AMS 2592, NADCAP, and other major aerospace and military flapper peening requirements, making it suitable across a wide range of OEM and MRO programs.

Key Improvements Over Previous Models

The FlapSpeed® PRO’s most notable upgrade is its integrated saturation curve solver, built directly into the control software. Generating an accurate saturation curve to verify intensity is now faster and requires far less manual calculation than on previous models.

The system is also more compact and field-ready. It features a smaller handpiece grinder with a 25 ft (7.7 m) cord for added reach, and a fully loaded weight of just 27 lbs (12.3 kg). The case interior is foam-fitted for flaps, mandrels, the magnetic block, magnifier, Almen gage, and Almen strips, and the unit travels comfortably on its integrated wheels and handle.

The FlapSpeed® PRO can be used whenever a drawing, engineering order, technical document, or manual calls for rotary flapper peening.

Does the FlapSpeed® PRO eliminate the need for a saturation curve per Boeing BAC5730-2 Rev D?

Yes. Boeing BAC5730-2 Rev D, new method A, recognizes that using the FlapSpeed® PRO to continuously monitor and adjust RPM produces highly repeatable intensity results, eliminating the need to generate a saturation curve for every operator.

What peening intensities can the FlapSpeed® PRO achieve?

The FlapSpeed® PRO can achieve all intensities possible with rotary flapper peening, ranging from 0.004A to 0.0165A inches (1500 to 6000 RPM), covering A, N, and C range intensities.

How often does the FlapSpeed® PRO need to be calibrated?

The FlapSpeed® PRO requires calibration on a yearly basis. Both the handpiece and the controller must be sent together for calibration.
