One of the biggest challenges in aerospace MRO is maintaining a zero-FOD (Foreign Object Debris) environment during engine repairs. To address this, Shockform, in partnership with MTU Aero Engines, designed the Spiker®-ES to let technicians perform needle peening repairs directly on an installed turbine, without disassembling the blade, stage, or any other time-consuming component.
As a result, peening is performed using tungsten carbide needles, with all process parameters continuously monitored, controlled, and recorded, and the E-Strip® technology sensor enables real-time peening intensity measurement throughout the operation.
The Spiker®-ES controls all process parameters, allowing technicians to intervene rapidly without risk of leaving FOD in the engine. Because disassembly and reassembly are eliminated, MRO teams can achieve considerable time savings on turbine engine repairs.
